The EQS SUV is the most expensive EV on the list, but it justifies its six-figure price tag. The Mercedes is one of the largest and most luxurious electric SUVs you can buy. It's also superbly comfortable and well built, and it boasts some of the best tech in the industry, including the optional massive 56-inch Hyperscreen that spans the width of the dashboard. This highly refined electric SUV is on the opposite end of the spectrum from the very capable Rivian R1S.
The electric Mercedes offers an optional third row for large families, but cargo space behind it is very small. Installing child seats should be easy thanks to its wide-opening doors and large rear seats. Its range tops out at 305 miles.

These are the electric cars with the most cargo space
When we talk about the benefits of fully electric vehicles, we often focus on things like zero emissions, energy efficiency, incredible performance and acceleration. But one of the biggest advantages of electric cars is actually something much less glamorous, but much more practical.
When you look at the design of most fully electric cars from the outside, you can hardly tell the difference between the battery-powered and petrol-powered versions. Under the body, however, things are rather different.
Electric cars are built like skateboards. With all of the motors, batteries and electronics packed into the floor space between the front and rear wheels. All of the space on top of this vehicle base is basically up for grabs. This means that electric cars can be much more generous in terms of both the space that is afforded to passengers as well as luggage.
Here are some of the best electric cars on the market today in terms of cargo space.
Tesla Model X
We might as well start with the granddaddy of electric cars, Tesla. The Model X, Teslas SUV all-wheel-drive model, offers unprecedented space inside for both driver and passengers. It can seat up to seven adults, but all of those seats can fold flat for maximum cargo space. It also comes with Falcon Wing Doors, that open upwards to provide even easier access for large items.
Total cargo space comes in at a massive 2492 liters (88 cubic feet). I could move apartments in this thing. When was the last time you went from zero to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, with a sofa in the boot?
Tesla Model S
As well as offering impressive range, even the smaller Model S is rather spacious with more room for your luggage or shopping than youd get in even an upmarket petrol or diesel estate car from one of the big European manufacturers.
Cargo space comes in at a total of 849 liters (30 cubic feet) - 150 liters of which is located in the front of the car where the engine would usually be. Traveling as a two? You can also fold down the rear seats to take your cargo space up to a massive 1,769 liters. Thats a whole lot of luggage.
Jaguar I-Pace
Perhaps the best-looking all-electric car you can buy today (but this could be my British bias at play), the Jaguar I-Pace, is also fit for family outings. There are three models of I-Pace, the S, SE and HSE. Although they vary in terms of range and specs, the cargo space is the same in all three models.
As for the magic number? Boot volume comes in at a maximum of 656 liters (23 cubic feet). Jaguar does say that the boot volume is reduced to 638 liters when customers opt to have Active Air Suspension fitted, however.
Hyundai Kona Electric
If you dont want to spend Tesla or Jaguar money but still need a spacious all-electric vehicle, the Hyundai Kona Electric could be the pick for you. The petrol version of this car has a reputation for having plenty of cargo space, so youd expect the electric version to match it - and it does.
The Kona Electric also comes in three models but like the Jags, the differentials are more about the finish and features of the models, the size of each is the same. With the Hyundai, you are looking at a total cargo space of 1373 liters (45.8 cubic feet), but thats with the rear seats down. With the rear seats up, youll have to settle for 544 liters of cargo space.
Kia e-Niro
The Kia E-Niro launched late last year and, from the outside at least, looks like a pretty roomy SUV style electric vehicle. Youd be correct, kind of, in that assumption. There is plenty of space inside for those who have come along for the ride, and its crossover design makes it feel more spacious than it actually is.
In terms of cargo space, the Kia e-Niro comes in at a maximum of 1405 liters (49.6 cubic feet). Again, that is with seats folded down. The regular boot volume with all the seats in place is 451 liters. Thats not bad, but its not exactly Tesla-esque.

For many potential buyers, the allure of an SUV is all the cargo and passenger space inside. More cargo space is never a bad idea, whether its for gear, groceries, or something else. 11. 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge
Looking for a 2022 electric SUV with the most cargo space? The Volvo XC40 Recharge isnt the best in terms of cargo space, but it offers plenty for most people. This SUV has 16 cubic feet of space behind the second row, and folding the rear seats down allows up to 46.9 feet. Additionally, a 1.1 cubic-foot frunk is available thanks to the electric powertrain, according to KBB.
10. 2022 Kia Niro
The Korean automakers electric SUV replaced the Kia Soul electric model in the lineup. It provides 53 cubic feet of space behind the front seats and 18.5 with the second row unfolded. Like Volvos electric offering, it isnt the best but provides enough room for most buyers.
9. Audi e-tron Sportback
So youre in the market for an electric SUV but want it to be a little on the sportier side? Heres your answer, as long as youre ready to pay a premium price. This model provides owners with 54.5 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded down. Its minimized to 27.2 cubic feet when the rear seats are passenger-ready.
8. 2022 Jaguar I-Pace
Another model thats more on the expensive side, this Jaguar, has similar cargo space to the Audi Sportback. One of the first electric luxury SUVs on the market, the I-Pace has 23.3 cubic feet behind the second row of seats. Additionally, it provides 54.1 cubic feet with the seats folded down.
7. 2022 Audi e-tron
Not the sportier model this time, but with even more space for all your storage needs. Audis first electric SUV has 56.4 cubic feet of space, with the second row folded down. In addition, upright seats reduce that number to 28.5 cubic feet, which is still commendable.
6. 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV
The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV is a small SUV with a surprising amount of space inside. This electric SUV holds 16.3 cubic feet of cargo without folding the seats down. Once the second row is out of the way, that number jumps up to 56.9 cubic feet.
5. 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5
Is it a hatchback or an electric SUV? Regardless of how you classify it, the Ioniq 5 has 27.2 cubic feet behind the second row but 59.3 with the seats down. A tiny 0.85 cubic-foot frunk also adds to the storage space possibilities.
4. 2022 Volkswagen ID.4
Volkswagens electric SUV is one of the most spacious available. The long-range EV has an astounding 30.3 cubic feet of space with passengers seats in place. Folding the second row down boosts the number to 64.2. Only a few familiar models provide more cargo space than Volkswagens bid.
3. 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E
Is there anything the Ford electric crossover cant do? While some say it doesnt deserve the Mustang name, its quickly made a name for itself. Regardless, it has 59.7 cubic feet of space behind the front seats. A 4.8 cubic-foot frunk dominates the other models on the list, and when rear-passenger-ready, it still manages 29.7 cubic feet of space. If it doesnt have a Tesla badge, every electric SUV has less cargo space than the Mustang Mach-E.
2. 2022 Tesla Model Y
With a significant jump from previous models on the list, the Model Y has 72.1 cubic feet of space. When all the seats are up, it drops to 30.2 cubic feet. Lastly, it provides owners with a 4.1 cubic-foot frunk, slightly smaller than the Mustang Mach-Es offering.
1. 2022 Tesla Model X
The electric SUV with the most cargo space inside is the 2022 Tesla Model X. It comes with a ridiculous amount of interior space, especially compared to other models. Every Model X provides 85.1 cubic feet with the second row folded down and an incredible 37.1 cubic feet with the seats upright. Finally, it has a frunk that beats Fords electric SUV, with 6.5 cubic feet of space inside.
