Ford Mustang Mach E GT Performance Tuned Electric SUV
2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E preview: price, specs and release date
The highly-anticipated all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E is arriving in Australia later this year to compete against the top-selling Tesla Model Y. But is it really a Mustang?
The Mustang Mach-E is Fords first ever pure-electric model developed from the ground up. It enters Australia as one of four electrified Fords, following the 2023 Escape plug-in hybrid SUV, the 2023 E-Transit van, and the next-gen 2024 E-Transit Custom van.
The controversial Mustang Mach-E was originally released in the US in 2020, as a sporty rival to medium electric SUVs like theTesla Model Y,Hyundai Ioniq 5andKia EV6. Mustang fans were up in arms, since traditionally Mustangs have always been sporty two-door petrol V8s, and this is the first time the fabled pony badge has been on an EV or an SUV.
"The Mach-E is miles away from what the Mustang has long stood for," says motoring journalist Toby Hagon. "Sure, there are some design themes that flow between the two, but the Mach-E is a practical mid-sized electric SUV whereas Mustangs have typically been about lots of noise and pace primarily for two people."
Despite some Mustang fans claiming that the Mach-E isn't really a Mustang at all, nearly 40,000 units left dealer showrooms in the US in 2022.
You might have already spotted the new Mustang Mach-E electric SUV on The Block being driven around by the contestants. Youll certainly be spotting it on Australian roads by next year, because this pony shapes up to be an absolute eye-catcher. Read on to find out more about this e-SUV, with prices recently reduced across the range.

Half a century ago, classic muscle car lovers, especially all the Ford Mustang lovers out there, would never have thought that the car that once stood for muscle and power would become one of the premier electric SUVs in the nation. To understand how this transformation took place, it might be fun to go back in time and relive some of the great histories that are attached to the classic muscle car, up to the current models that are beginning to shift away from internal combustion engines towards electric-powered drivetrains.
Inheriting a name fundamentally linked with muscle car culture determined a colossal shift between what we knew and did not know about Ford cars. The Ford Mustang Mach-E, a pseudo-electric crossover focused on driving dynamics, cabin comfort, and electromobility, used all the brand awareness Ford built with our favorite pony car and, overnight, shifted it to the world of electric cars. We like what they did here, but there's a lot that gave the Ford Mustang Mach-E jump ahead of everyone else on the market.

15 Ford Mustang Mach-E Easter Eggs
While researching, several details on the Mustang Mach-E that some may consider being an Easter egg have been found. For example, the inscription "horsepower" is behind the charger point covers. Also, check out the Mustang logo under the movable rubber paddings on some surfaces in the cabin. The Ford Mustang Mach-E has more than 20 similar details to this, and if we did not live in a world where Easter eggs are appreciated, they would not be there at all.
14 The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Can Tow Up To 3,306 Pounds
The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E has a 91 kWh extended-range battery. Ford improved practicality by increasing the maximum towing capacity to 3,306 pounds compared with 2,204 pounds in earlier models. These figures, mind you, are for European models. The Mustang Mach-E isn't rated for towing in the U.S., at least according to its manual. Still, considering Ford increased the towing capacity with an over-the-air update in Europe, one has to conclude that towing is more than possible.

12 The Ford Mach-E And The Transit Van Share The Same Batteries
Interestingly enough, the Mustang Mach-E features batteries produced in Poland by LG Chem Poland. Just before the company's electric car revolution, Ford execs made a deal with LG to create a new production line dedicated to Ford vehicles. Ford had to develop a range of vehicles using the same battery setup to make the deal profitable. The result is a battery technology capable of supporting a multitude of different Ford vehicles, the Ford E Transit Van and Ford Mustang Mach-E included.

11 The Resale Value Of The Mach-E Is Unbelievable!
Securing Kelley Blue Book's Best Resale Value Award, the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E reached an exciting place on the market. It is expected to retain 37.9 percent of its value over five years. This proved that the Mustang Mach E is a hot commodity, which was proven further by the fact that new car dealers need only 14 days to turn in the vehicle. Also, the Mustang Mach-E is the third most financed vehicle out there and one of the fastest-selling used cars on the market.
10 The Ford Mustang Mach-E Comes With Fake Sound Options
As with any new electric car, the Ford Mustang Mach-E does feature exterior speakers that transmit sounds needed to warn pedestrians about upcoming vehicles as per government regulations. However, you can choose between three different sound options on the inside. Engage, Whisper, and Unbridled Mode, with the latter being the loudest, while the Whisper turns off all the sounds, and the only thing you can hear is the slight motor whine.

9 Multiple Ways To Access Your Mach-E
Ford introduced keypad entry in 1980 with the Thunderbird and the Lincoln Mark VI. It is a system that allows unlocking a car after entering a code on the keypad located on the side of the doors. The same system is available on the Mustang Mach-E, bringing several exciting possibilities. Regardless of the scenario, you can access the Ford Mustang Mach-E by unlocking the car via a keypad, an app on the smartphone, a keyfob, or just by walking to it with a key in your pocket.
8 No Ford Badges On The Mustang Mach-E Whatsoever
Ford's marketing team removed all Ford badges from the Mustang Mach-E. They have done this to differentiate the car from the rest of the lineup and further develop the Mustang brand. Remember the new Bronco? Well, that one has only one Ford blue oval badge. The same story goes there - all unique vehicles in the lineup benefit from this differentiation. This is another step to make the Mustang Mach-E as unique as possible.

7 Turn Your Frunk Into An Ice Bucket
You can fill it with ice, then put your drinks in it. The frunk is not an unheard-of feature in EVs. However, it is quite an interesting one. It is assumed that this makes the Mach-E somewhat flamboyant and youthful. The frunk, with a capacity of 4.7 cubic inches (or 133 liters), can drain itself automatically. Ford representatives even said the Mach-E frunk "has an automatic drain in the bottom that will drain when it senses water."
6 Drive The Way You Want
One of the most exciting reasons to buy a new car from the factory is to break it in to match your specific driving habits. That means if you drive like you own a racecar, the vehicle will get up and go whenever it is on the road. The people at Ford considered this fact when building the Mustang Mach-E. They included SYNC-4A technology in each and every car. This allows up to three drivers and one guest to customize the ride regardless of who initially broke the car in.

5 300 Miles On A Charge For The Mustang Mach-E Is Not Standard
One of the big selling points that Ford dealers like to point out is that the Mustang Mach-E can travel up to 300 miles per charge (most people have found it to be more like 290 miles.) The truth is that those numbers are accurate as long as the Mustang Mach-E has the larger battery installed. The extended-range battery is not the standard one put into the car when assembled, so the smaller battery will be found in the vehicle unless the extended-life version is opted for. A smaller battery that only averages 230 miles on a charge.
4 The Mustang Mach-E Can Be Upgraded To Include A Complete Sound System
For many people, music is life; if they cannot listen to the news while on the way to work, they will never know what is happening in the world around them. Most new cars today have great sound systems, which include the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The sound systems in all models are controlled mainly through the infotainment center and spread out through the speakers. The thing about the Mustang Mach-E is that in the higher models, you can opt for a B&O audio system that gives you an actual sound bar that goes along the top of the dash from one side of the car to the other.

3 Red Taillights Disappear On The Ford Mustang Mach-E
When you walk through any parking lot, the common thing seen is nameplates for each car mounted between two sets of red brake lights. Brake lights are placed on each end of the outer edge of the back of every vehicle to help give better visibility to all the other drivers on the road. As a driver, when you see red come on, you know it is time to brake, and when white lights come on, the driver backs up. This is common knowledge, but an excellent and quite unique thing that Ford has done with the Mustang Mach-E is to make the taillights turn from red to white when the car is turned off and parked. It is not anything that is needed, but it sure is cool.
2 The Mach-E GT Deserves A Mention
The Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition must be included here because it is one of the most interesting models offered. With two electric motors for a combined output of 487 horsepower and 634 pound-feet of torque, this 4,845-pound vehicle can accelerate to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. It is a fantastic performer, all with the Pirelli P-Zero tires and performance-tuned suspension.

1 The Ford Mach-E Is A True Mustang At Heart
Classic Ford Mustangs are not meant to be silent or reduce the carbon emissions they put into the atmosphere. They are muscle cars intended to eat the competition for lunch on any quarter-mile track nationwide. True classic car lovers balked when they first heard about the new electric Mustang, but the engineers at Ford did everything they could to keep the heart and soul of the classic muscle car in the new EV version. Some might even say that the Ford Mustang Mach-E is a better version of the 'Stang because it can accelerate faster, corner better, and it is much better for the environment.
