A decade after it was first unveiled, the Porsche Macan now has a new identity: it is all electric. After the Taycan, this is only the second all-electric model in Porsche's lineup, and that trajectory is evidence of the increasing electrification of the automotive industry. While legacy automakers are making space in their lineups for electric cars, new players are entering the EV market that is growing by the day. Porsche clearly is in no mood to be left behind.
Porsche's cars are known for their timeless design and top performance dynamics, from sports cars to SUVs. But the 2024 all-electric Macan covers all of those grounds and more. The German automaker claims the new Macan is a result of their motivation to craft an electric SUV that offers sports car-like performance. While that can be answered best by those who eventually drive the 2024 Macan, there's a lot more that you should know about this new all-electric sporty SUV.

1 The 2024 Macan EV Builds On The Signature Porsche Sporty Design DNA
Technically an SUV, the all-electric Macan takes the sporty design DNA characteristic of Porsche and takes it up a notch, adapting it all to the challenges of an electric vehicle. In the words of Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche, the Macan remains the sports car in its segment, even in electric form.
The compact SUV is around 188.4 inches long, 84.7 inches wide (if you include the mirrors), and just below 64 inches in height. And lately, the trends indicate that compact and luxury SUVs are taking over the international market, accounting for nearly 45-percent of all car sales in 2020-2021. This trend, coupled with the growth of EVs, makes it a perfect time for the all-electric Macan.
The New Macan Is One Of The Most Streamlined SUVs On The Market
- Porsche combines its design DNA with optimized aerodynamics, with the Macan having a drag coefficient of 0.25.
- This is a result of the Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) system which includes the adaptive rear spoiler, active cooling flaps on the front air intakes, and flexible covers on the fully sealed underbody.
- To add to that, the air curtains below the headlight module and the low-slung front end optimize the airflow.
- At the rear, air guides and the louvered diffuser contribute to aerodynamic efficiency.
2 It Offers More Cargo Space Than The ICE Macan
Apart from being sporty in its design, Porsche flags the new Macan as a performance-oriented SUV with a high level of practicality for everyday use. To that end, you get more cabin and cargo space in the latest Macan, thanks to the electrification which gives it increased luggage space, including a frunk.
You get around 18 cubic feet of space behind the rear seat bench, while the frunk has a capacity of nearly 3 cubic feet. So, if you compare it to the 2023 Macan, you get around 4.4 cubic feet more space in the all-electric Macan.
Increased Space Makes The 2024 Macan More Practical
- Porsche understands that even if the Macan offers great performance, it is the practicality of the vehicle that makes or breaks it.
- On folding down the rear seats completely, the luggage compartment capacity in the back goes up to 46.5 cubic feet.
- Depending on the model and equipment, the seating height in the front is a little over an inch lower than before, while the rear passengers sit around 0.6 inches lower with more legroom.
- Moreover, Porsche claims the maximum towing capacity of the 2024 Macan is around 4,409 pounds, though it quizzes us what someone would want to tow with this luxurious compact SUV.

3 It Features A Friendly Interior With Ambient Lighting
Porsche maintains the design dynamics throughout this all-electric version of the Macan. For instance, the width of the cockpit is accentuated by an integrated black panel. Plus, when you are positioned behind the wheel, you will get the impression of a low and performance-focused position in the vehicle, especially due to the rising design of the center console.
The large windows complement that by giving a rather light and airy feel to the interior space. While you have the typical digital user interfaces, there are also a few analog control elements, like on the air vents and the air conditioning controls, for instance. But what is fascinating about the 2024 Macan is the integrated LED light strip.
The 2024 Macan Has A Responsive LED Light Strip Integrated In The Interior
- An LED light strip is integrated into the thoughtfully designed trim strip of the cockpit and doors.
- It acts not only as a beautiful ambient light but also as a communication light, in order to signal the driver and every passenger inside.
- What's really cool about this tiny but thoughtful innovation is that, depending on the situation, it provides information or warnings, such as for greetings, charging processes or in tandem with the driver assistance systems of the Macan.
- The equipment inside the new Macan is high-quality, crafted from sustainable materials. Porsche offers leather-free seats and uses recycled interior elements.
4 No Dearth Of High-Tech Features
If you've seen the cabin of the ICE Macan, you are in for a surprise as soon as you lay your eyes on the interior of the new all-electric SUV. Porsche has given the interiors of most of its cars a face-lift in the last few months, and the Macan is no exception.
The Macan is equipped with the latest-generation display with up to three screens, including the freestanding 12.6-inch, curved instrument cluster and the 10.9-inch central display. What's new is that, for the first time, the passenger can also view information, adjust settings on the infotainment system, or stream video content on their own optional 10.9-inch screen.
The Porsche Driver Experience Includes A Head-Up Display With Augmented Reality Tech
- Apart from the screens, the all-electric Macan features a head-up display, but what's cool about this is the reality tech.
- This means that virtual elements like navigation arrows are visually integrated into the real world, as in, the image appears to the driver at a distance of 32.8 feet, with a roughly 87-inch display.
- Based on Android Automotive OS, the infotainment system is compatible with Apple Car Play as well.
- To add to that, the standard Porsche Communication Management (PCM) in the new Macan takes the tech to a new level.

5 The Dual-motor Setup Churns Out Up To 630 Horses
0-60 mph In Under Five Seconds
It is no news that Porsche is building two versions of the vehicle: the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, both of which sport dual motors for all-wheel drive. As far as the numbers go, both models promise top-class performance.
The Macan 4 will churn out around 402 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. It can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just under 5 seconds, and achieve a top track speed of 136 mph. The Macan Turbo, on the other hand, will produce 630 horsepower and 833 pound-feet of torque, and it can hit 60mph from a standstill in just 3.1 seconds, with a top track speed of 161 mph.

6 The Macan EV Can Deliver Up To 381 Miles Of Range
Courtesy Of A 95 kWh Usable Battery Pack
The electric motors on the 2024 Macan draw their energy from a modular prismatic lithium-ion (HV) body that is located in the underbody of the EV. Weighing around 1,260 pounds, it has a gross capacity of 100 kWh, of which 95 kWh is readily available.
The battery, under the body, is protected by a fiberglass-composite skid plate to avoid any damage. It consists of 12 modules, each with 15 prismatic cells connected in a series. While the official EPA figures aren't out yet, the Turbo model boasts a range of WLTP-rated 381 miles, so we can expect the real-world figures to be slightly lower.

7 The Battery Can Charge From 10- To 80-percent In 21 Minutes
As noted in the previous entry, the DC charging capability in the 2024 all-electric Macan is up to 270 kW. This means that the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent within approximately 21 minutes at a compatible fast-charging station under ideal conditions.
The battery features a high-voltage switch that enables bank charging at 400-volt charging stations by splitting the 800-volt battery into two. To put it simply, the pack can function like two separate packs on low-speed chargers to improve charge time.
The 2024 Macan Will Have Access To The Supercharger Network
- It is well known that, like most automakers, VW Group gave in to Tesla's might, and all new VW, Audi, Porsche, and Scout models sold in the USA will have to have a NACS charging point.
- NACS, an abbreviation of the North American Charging Standard, is an electric vehicle (EV) charging connector system developed by Tesla.
- The debate (and competition) around the charging connector system was about ensuring standardization. And following suit, the Macan will have access to the Supercharger Network straight off the bat.
- Moreover, the front e-motor is also used to recuperate up to 240 kW of energy by employing regenerative braking.
8 It Is The First Macan With Rear-Axle Steering And Two-Valve Dampers
For the first time, the Macan gets the optional rear-axle steering with a maximum steering angle of five degrees. Rear axle steering is a mechanism that turns a car's rear wheels in the same or opposite direction as the front wheels, and this helps maintain the car's balance. Moreover, it can also improve maneuverability at low speeds.
For the all-electric Macan, this means a compact turning angle of 36.4 feet in urban traffic and when maneuvering. At higher speeds, it promises exceptional driving stability, assisted by the precise front-axle steering for which Porsche is known.
The 2024 Macan Comes Equipped With PASM Electronic Damping Control
- PASM, short for Porsche Active Suspension Management, also features two-valve technology.
- In addition to that, height-adjustable air suspension also comes standard on both models.
- The more expansive damper map results in a wider spectrum between comfort and performance, resulting in much more distinctive characteristics between the different drive programs.
- The standard ride height is 7.1 inches, but selecting Sport+ drops it to 5.9 inches, and the Off-Road mode raises it to 8.7 inches.

9 Porsche Claims The 2024 Macan Delivers A Sports Car Feeling
Porsche claims it developed the Macan with a focus on quintessential Porsche driving dynamics and a characteristic steering feel. As noted earlier, the particularly sporty seat position and low center of gravity, coupled with driving dynamics and steering precision promise that, "the new Macan delivers a real sports car feeling," according to Product Line Vice President Jrg Kerner.
True or not, that can only be answered via test drives. But on paper, the specs coupled with the ridiculously aerodynamic design and a drag coefficient of 0.25, it does seem like Porsche has employed intelligent engineering to provide the Macan with all the tools to replicate a sports car feel.
Both The Models Of The All-Electric Macan Have The All-Wheel Drive Setup
- The dual motors are controlled via power electronics in almost real-time. There is no physical coupling in this new all-wheel drive system, called Porsche Traction Management.
- According to the automaker, the electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management (ePTM) operates around five times faster than a conventional all-wheel drive system.
- It can respond to a wheelspin within 10 milliseconds. To put it in perspective, it is twice as fast as it takes visual stimuli to reach the brain.
- Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), which is an electronically controlled differential lock on the rear axle, also contributes to the traction, driving stability, and lateral dynamics of the Macan Turbo.
10 You Can Own A 2024 All-Electric Macan 4 For $78,800
The Top-spec Trim Will Cost You Over $100,000
The Macan lineup has been quite successful for Porsche. According to the brand, it has delivered more than 800,000 examples of the Macan worldwide since 2014. While the entry-level 2024 Macan 4 costs $78,800, the MSRP for the Macan Turbo is $105,300. This does not include the delivery, processing, and handling fee.
Orders are open, with Porsche estimating the first deliveries to begin during the second half of 2024. We can expect the official EPA range figures around the same time as well. As for the ICE models of Macan, Porsche does not plan on discontinuing them anytime soon.
The Macan EV Has Nearly The Same Performance As The Macan T
- If you compare the specs of the conventional Macan lineup available in the U.S., the numbers reveal that the electrified Macan 4 has nearly the same level of performance as the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder Macan T (costing $76,335).
- Plus, the electrified Macan Turbo is quite close in performance to the turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6 Macan GTS (costing $99,135), only a second quicker to 60 mph.
- The frunk on the electrified Macan, as noted, measures a volume of 2.9 cubic feet, which is the same amount as the Taycan Cross Turismo and is only usable for the smallest items.
